I am particularly interested in this statue as the gathering place in Madison, Wisconsin for the 100 Thousand Poets for Change rally,
on September 24, 2011, for two reasons. The first is that it was created by a woman artist in 1893, and placed in front of Wisconsin’s Capitol in 1895. The significance of this as a part of the Woman’s rights issue has been overlooked, in that today’s art world still considers women artists as less important than their male counterparts.

Women comprising approximately 14% of total artist works sold on Earth. So here was a sculptress, whose work was thus honored over a century ago and yet no one knows her name. This statue due either to its prominence on the Madison capitol square, or the fact of her powerful posture and position has become a symbol of the current protests against the authoritarian take over of state governments by ruthless corporate supporting senators.

I believe that this statue represents what the current citizens of the USA should consider in their voting and reasoning. Although I am opposed to nationalism, and wish it replaced by Earth Citizenship, still, she holds importance in the struggle to reach this ideal. Poets gathering in Madison for the 100 Thousand Poets For Change should strongly consider this statue as the gathering place for their rally on September 24th, 2011.

Please take a look at her history. Here she is:
